Inspiring youth to reach new boundaries in global development
2019 TOPIC- PEER EDUCATION AND ACTION
WAYS TO MITIGATE BENGALURU WATER CRISIS
Dear Head of school / Faculty member,
We, ProjectNBYouth (Project New Boundaries for Youth), extend an invitation to high school students in grades 8, 9, or 10 of your school, to participate in a competition that aims to raise awareness and action in the youth about ways to mitigate the current water crisis in Bengaluru. We invite teams of two students each to participate from your school. We are sure participating teams will receive maximum support and guidance from their respective faculty and school.
Our initiative aims to spread awareness and inspire youth about local health and environmental issues in their communities so that they can actively participate and work to bring about positive changes. We look to inspire youth leadership working towards a sustainable and healthy future for communities.
Why participate in our competition?
Years of urbanization and increasing population, and poor water management in Bengaluru, especially over the last three decades has led to falling ground-water levels and scarcity of water for everyday living. This crisis has an enormous impact on health, safety, local economy, society, and the global environment. Globally, people are facing the challenges of sustainability. Through everyday actions and sustainability initiatives, we strive to pass on to our future generations, a world that is ecologically sound.
Do you see simple things in our daily lives that you can think of could be changed in order to mitigate this water crisis and achieve a more sustainable way of life? Do you realize the potential of small changes with a big impact that can change the world? Do you want to inspire other people in the world and turn your enthusiasm for a sustainable way of life into concrete action? Then this competition is for you! Take up the challenge and show us what you can to do for your community, environmental health, and sustainability!
THIS YEAR’S FOCUS- WATER CRISIS IN BENGALURU!
Why Bengaluru and surrounding cities?
In urban cities like Bengaluru, water crisis has reached a critical point. Bengaluru’s population has more than doubled to about 12 million since 2001 and is predicted to hit 20 million by 2031. The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) is the main agency that manages drinking water – but it can provide it to only about 60% of the city.Officials admit that city authorities, unprepared for the speed of the city’s tech boom, did not adequately plan for Bengaluru’s growing water needs.
